 BREC Bedford Race Equality Council

Bedford REC offers the following services:
  • Advice Surgeries
  • Consultancy Services
  • Individual Casework
  • Workplace Opportunities for students
  • Support to Black and Minority Ethnic Community Groups
  • Mentoring support to students from African Caribbean communities
  • Enabling increased provision and access to services for local women
  • Co-Ordination Service for the Bedfordshire Hate Crime Partnership and True Vision Campaign

Regional network for Black / Minority Ethnic (BME) voluntary organisations and communities with 420 BME organisations on the mailing list. Run by a voluntary management board of 20 trustees from member groups plus advisors from Race Equality Councils, Go-East, COVER (the general voluntary sector regional network) and Cambridge Ethnic Community Forum. Funded by the Active Community Directorate of the Home Office, Go-East and EEDA (East of England Development Agency). Staff: Chief Officer, Head of Infrastructure, Regional Partnership Development Officer, Regional Equlaities Partnership Officer, Head of Policy and Enterprise, Equalities Development Officer and four County Outreach Development Officers. Each outreach officer works for one of the following areas:
  • Central Bedfordshire, Bedford Borough and Luton
  • Hertfordshire
  • Cambridgeshire, Essex, Thurrock, Southend and Peterborough
  • Norfolk and Suffolk
