Amaravati provides a meditative yet joyful environment. It is dedicated to the development of wisdom and compassion and, it is hoped that, whatever your own religious background you will find some spiritual inspiration to take back into your daily life.

We shall arrive at the monastery at approximately 10:45 when we may join the monastic community for their early meal (Buddhist monastics must complete their meal by 12:00 noon). If you wish, you can bring vegetarian food to contribute. We shall be joining one of the regular meditation workshops for beginners, conducted by one of the monks, or nuns from the monastery at 2:00pm in the Bodhinyana Meditation Hall, which will finish at 4:00pm (The instructor will be aware that a group from the Bedford Council of Faiths is present). There will be an opportunity to look around the monastry and see the remarkable Buddhist Temple (A more detailed information leaflet will be prepared for those who attend).
Note
Whilst the meditation teacher will probably carry out religious observances as part of the workshop, members will not be expected to join in any such religious services, or practices, which would 'compromise' their own faith.

There is a limit of 15 participents so we would ask you to indicate your interest and participation very soon. If the event ia heavily oversubscribed it might be possible to organise a sencond event.

We shall need to charge £15:00 per person, which will include transportation although we may have to revise this amount depending on numbers. Some grants may be available for those unable to pay (If you are in need of such a grant, please ask us).

In order to join the study outing, please complete a participation form, which we ask you to submit with your remittance (cheques made payable to Bedford Council of Faiths). Once you have indicated your firm participation we shall keep you informed of all relevant details.

Departure from Bedford will have to be around 9:30am and return around 8:00pm. If you wish to make your own travel arrangements that's fine, as long as you arrive at Amaravati by 10:45am.
